TMV testing keeps your thermostatic mixing valves delivering hot water at a safe, steady temperature. In many commercial buildings, it’s also a legal requirement. GAP Trade Services tests, services, repairs and installs TMVs for homes and businesses across Sydney.

Your hot water system heats water well above a safe temperature for bathing. If that water reaches a tap or shower without being tempered, it can cause serious scalding injuries.

A working TMV blends hot and cold water to a set temperature at the outlet. It does this whether you have a storage, solar or continuous flow hot water system. If the hot or cold supply fails, its failsafe mechanism shuts the valve down straight away.

TMVs must meet Australian Standard AS 4032.1. It refers to AS 4032.3, which sets the rules for field testing, maintenance and replacement. TMVs must also be commissioned by a technically competent and qualified person. After every TMV test or service, you get a record of the results and any repairs, as AS 4032.3 Appendix B requires. That record supports the management system your property needs to show its valves are being tested and maintained.

TMV TESTING

We check that each valve delivers water at the right temperature and that the failsafe shuts it down if a supply fails. TMVs must be checked and serviced at least once every 12 months.

TEST RECORDS

You’ll receive a record of the test results and any repairs, as set out in AS 4032.3 Appendix B. Keep it with your compliance records for audits and inspections.

REPAIRS & SERVICING

We replace thermostatic actuators at least every 5 years. We also replace and lubricate dynamic O-rings and seals at least every 5 years, or sooner if the manufacturer says so.

TMVs are mandatory in premises such as hospitals and nursing homes, where many people can’t react quickly to very hot water. Regular TMV testing makes sure every basin, shower and bath delivers water at a safe temperature.

    How often does TMV testing need to be done?

    TMVs must be checked and serviced at least once every 12 months under AS 4032.3. Thermostatic actuators, and dynamic O-rings and seals, must also be replaced at least every 5 years, or sooner if the manufacturer requires it.

    Who can carry out TMV testing in Sydney?

    TMVs must be tested, serviced and commissioned by a technically competent and qualified person, in line with AS 4032.3 and the manufacturer’s instructions.     What happens if my thermostatic mixing valve fails its test?

    A failed TMV may not be protecting people from scalding, so it needs repair as soon as possible. We’ll explain what’s wrong and quote the repair or replacement before starting any work. Please don’t try to fix a TMV yourself, because scalding water can cause permanent injuries.
